Triathlete Damian Hill, 29, originally of Naknek, AK, is gearing up for another competitive season in the professional circuit.

On Sunday, March 3, Hill, now of Portland, traveled to Lincoln City, OR, for the fifth annual Half-Marathon at Elks Wapiti Park. Posting a time of 1:18:30, Hill beat his nearest competition by almost four minutes. Jason Hawthorne, 43, another serious triathlete, was last year's Half-Marathon winner, this year finishing second with a time of 1:22:21.

Hill told The News Guard that he was using the race to hone his skills and get baseline numbers for his race pace this season.

Last September, Hill placed 29th at the Hy-Vee 5150 US Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The Hy-Vee 5150 featured some the best triathletes in the world, including medalists from the 2012 Summer Olympics.
