Bristol Bay Fisheries Report July 17, 2016

Molly Dischner/KDLG News

Ugashik put away another 400,000 sockeye Saturday, while Naknek-Kvichak and Nushagak catches tapered off a little. Now the number everyone is wondering about? What're they going to be worth.

The total run to Bristol Bay is 39 million sockeye as of July 17. Saturday's catch was 1.7 million, bringing the season total to 29 million. Another 450,000 fish counted as escapement – almost 10 million counted so far this summer.

Today, Westside Management Biologist Tim Sands fills us in on when the counting towers come down - and gives a quick update on Togiak. The Fishtival organizer tells us about a new event this year - trivia - and the standards: salmon tossing and Bristol Bay's main (only?) summer bazaar. Plus, we hear about a young fisherman's almanac in the works.
