Alaska's Congressional Delegation expected in Bristol Bay Wednesday

Sen. Murkowski will visit Iguigig, Sen. Sullivan Dillingham, and all three are expected to attend a private fundraiser in King Salmon.

KDLG:  The U.S. Congress is on recess this week, ahead of the July 4 holiday. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, and apparently Congressman Don Young will be in Bristol Bay this week. BBEDC CEO Norm Van Vactor has been asked to help facilitate Senator Sullivan brief visit to town:

“He’s tentatively scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, July 1, on the Alaska Air jet at about 11:30 a.m.. We would like to invite everybody in town who would like to meet our senator to swing by the BBEDC offices from 12 p.m. till about 1:15 p.m. for pop and sandwiches and meet the senator, and ask him any questions you might have about the state of current events.”

Sullivan will get a driving tour around town, making stops at Fish and Game, Peter Pan, and elsewhere, and hopefully an aerial tour of the fishery. A public reception will also happen at SAFE from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Sullivan’s will not be the only dignitary visit in Dillingham Wednesday, said Van Vactor:

We also understand that Lt. Governor Mallot, and Commissioner Sam Cotten of the Dept. of Fish and Game are also going to spending a couple of hours in Dillingham Wednesday. We don’t have their specific schedules yet, but nonetheless on July 1 we have several dignitaries coming to town. Even though a lot of folks are out fishing, we hope that folks that are in town stop by, introduce themselves, and ask any questions they might have.”

Sen. Lisa Murkowski is planning to visit Igiugig Wednesday, checking out the new aqua turbine project, greenhouse, and some solar panel initiatives. BBNA's President Ralph Anderson will accompany Sen. Murkowski for part of that trip.

Details of Congressman Don Young’s visit to Bristol Bay were not available, but the delegation is expected to converge at an annual fund raiser in King Salmon at the private residence of Lynden Construction CEO Jim Jansen Wednesday night. That event is closed to the press.

This may not be the only high level visit Bristol Bay residents see this summer. The White House has reached out to a few folks in the region, asking about potentially hosting President Barack Obama during an Alaska trip tentatively scheduled for September. A White House advance team may be in Dillingham mid-July to plan for that visit.

This letter was sent to the White House in March, requesting a visit to the region by President Barack Obama.
