Alaska Senate passes bill to ditch daylight savings time

Bill to exempt Alaska from needing to change clocks twice a year passed 16-4 in the Senate Wednesday.

Alaska’s Senate voted 16-4 Wednesday in favor of exempting the state from daylight savings time.

Senate Bill 6 would also request the Department of Transportation to hold hearings in the state and determine which, if any, parts of Alaska might shift to the Pacific Time Zone.

The bill was sponsored by Sen. Anna Mackinnon, an Eagle River Republican. Senators Ellis, Gardner, Egan, and Stedman voted no.

It now goes to the House for consideration.
