2013 Holiday Program Schedule

This year, we've got a schedule FULL of Christmas cheer!  Let KDLG provide the soundtrack to your Christmas Day celebrations.

HOLIDAY SPECIALS

St. Olaf Christmas Festival  -  (670AM & 89.9FM)

Christmas Day  -  8am to 10am   

Start your Christmas morning with the song and words of The St. Olaf Christmas Festival!  It's one of the oldest musical celebrations of Christmas in the United States.  Started in 1912 by F. Melius Christiansen, founder of the St. Olaf College Music Department, the festival features more than 500 student musicians who are members of five choirs and the St. Olaf Orchestra.

Dillingham Elementary School Christmas Stories   -   (670AM)

Christmas Day  -  11:00am

In place of Open Line, we'll be broadcasting Christmas stories read by students from the Dillingham Elementary School.  The audio from this hour will be posted online on Christmas day. 

Welcome Christmas!  -  (670AM & 89.9FM)

Christmas Day  -  12:00pm   

It’s an hour of joyful holiday music featuring the Minneapolis-based chorus, VocalEssence, and hosted for the fifteenth year by APM’s John Birge.

A Chanticleer Christmas   -   (670AM & 89.9FM)

Christmas Day  -  1:00pm

A Chanticleer Christmas is a one-hour celebration of the season as told through the glorious voices of Chanticleer, the 12-voice San Francisco-based men’s choir. The program spans the globe and the centuries – from England in the 1300s to new arrangements of classic and contemporary carols.

Christmas Day  -   2:00pm to 4:00pm

The Christmas Day celebrations continue, with two hours of hand-picked Christmas music.  From Bing Crosby to CeeLo Green, we'll be playing holiday favorites that span the decades. 

Writer's Showcase   -   (670AM)

Christmas Day  -  9:00pm

Our friends at KTOO have started something great; a showcase of Alaska's best writers and actors.   Think: Selected Shorts, Alaska Style!  This inaugural program is holiday themed and includes the works of Alaska authors read by actors before a live studio audience.  Writers include Heather Lende, Geoff Kirsch, Clint Farr, Joan Pardes and Rockwell Kent. Actors include Christina Apathy, Shona Strauser, and Ryan Conarro.

Christmas Day   -   10:00pm

Join Bob and Robin as they motor across the country in a '71 Volkswagen Beetle, brave an ice storm and meet some special guests along the way, including Wayne Coyne of , (Annie Clark), and more.

NEW YEAR'S DAY

New Year's Day from Vienna 2014  -  (670AM & 89.9FM)

New Year's Day  -  11:00am - 1:00pm

Get ready to pop the New Year's Day champagne! The Vienna Philharmonic presents its annual salute to the waltz on New Year's Day 2014. The orchestra has invited Daniel Barenboim to welcome 2014 by conducting the annual New Year's year's concert, honoring his 25 years of musical collaboration with the orchestra, and his efforts to bring peace to the world through music. Hear the hit tunes of the Strauss family and others -- polkas, gallops and waltzes, live from the Musikverein, on New Year's Day from Vienna.

Ask Me Another
For the weekend beginning December 20, Ask Me Another has a holiday show with special guests, comedian and writer John Hodgman, The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and writer and resident know it all, AJ Jacobs. All the puzzles in that hour will be winter/travel/holiday related.

TED Radio Hour
For the weekend beginning December 20, TED Radio Hour rebroadcasts "Giving It Away." For the weekend beginning December 27, the show rebroadcasts "What is Beauty?," and for the weekend beginning January 3, a new episode called "Overcoming" with TED speakers who triumphed over an obstacle, and how they turned the thing that held them back into a source of strength and opportunity.

First Christmas
Weekend Edition Saturday; December 21
A special social media callout and on air segments geared toward "First Christmas." Host Rachel Martin invites Felix Contreras and Jasmin Garsd of NPR's online music program Alt.Latino to share some holiday music from their beat.

Morning Edition; Tuesday, December 24
Writer and humorist David Sedaris returns for an encore performance reading from his Santaland Diaries as Crumpet the Elf. Find previous years' readings at here.
